Bungo Restaurant, Where it All Started

Bungoyaki is a family tradition that started when my grandparents, Kazutoshi and Yoshiko Ojiro, immigrated to Los Angeles in 1965 to start a restaurant that they named Bungo Cafe, later to be renamed to Bungo Restaurant. Over the next 40 years, they served their community delicious, traditional, and memorable Japanese dishes, with their original Bungoyaki teriyaki sauce being the staple of their restaurant.

Passing on the Tradition

In the mid-2000s, my grandparents taught me how to make their teriyaki sauce and the recipe has remained unaltered ever since. I carry on the tradition by ensuring our ingredients, cooking methods, and flavors live up to the same quality and standards that would make my grandparents smile.

Family-Owned and Operated

In 2024, my sister and I started Bungoyaki as a small family-owned and operated business. I hand-make each bottle of Bungoyaki teriyaki sauce and sell at local farmer's markets in San Diego while my sister designs our labels, creates recipe videos and content on our Instagram, and everything else related to our brand.

From our family to yours, we hope you enjoy traditional Japanese flavor, made by you :)
